Pancakery

I should have posted this yesterday, but here are the results of my experimentations with various sweet pancake toppings and fillings. I enjoyed last night's pancakes so much that I may cook more tonight, so I may post some more impressions later.

  • Lemon juice and lots of sugar - a classic combination and deservedly so. I'd forgotten how great this tastes, if you don't burn the pancake so it's eaten still soft.
  • Maple syrup - another common favourite, but you need real maple syrup and it can be expensive. I'm not sure I like it as much now as I used to, but it's good.
  • Chilled, ready-made custard - didn't really work at all, the cold custard with the hot pancake was just unpleasant. Maybe if I'd used the custard as a filling and warmed the sealed, filled pancake in the pan, it would have been more of a success.
  • Apple pie filling, powdered cinnamon, and sugar - fantastic. I gorged myself on three pancakes filled with this stuff. Easily the favourite.

I have more toppings to try, including chocolate spread and yoghurt & banana. So stay tuned for more... Slightly Unusual Pancakes!

Golden syrup and lemon juice tastes marvellous.

Hope your RSS feed is working as you have gained a subscriber. Is it an atom1.0 or 2.0? I am still unfamiliar with these things!!!

Currators have found that the anvil of the vikings could do the same thing.
