Get some exercise

The last couple of mornings, I've gone for an early walk before settling down back home to write code all day. This morning I probably walked three or four miles, down the canal to the River Trent and the north end of the Attenborough nature reserve.

I don't know why I didn't start doing this sooner. On top of the fact that it's good exercise and that it's enjoyable, it clears the mind and sets me up for work mode. The biggest problem I have with working at home is that I get up, shower, maybe have some breakfast and then start working, and nothing's really kicked me into work mode by that point so I'm not as productive as I should be. Going for a wander wakes me up, it pumps some blood to the brain... I come back wide awake and better able to concentrate, and I'm prepped for what I'll be working on all day because I've been mentally planning it while I've been walking.

It's a shame that, from here, it's a bit of a distance to walk to even approach anywhere nice, but there are a couple of places I can get to in 10-15 minutes on foot, and that's good enough.

I wonder how long I can maintain this new regime.

Keep it up Chris :o) The damp autumn mornings will be here soon and then those crunchy sunny winter days. Us town dwellers easily miss the changing seasons when we're not forced to go outside at playtime, I find!
